Karl Merkley, Ph.D.

Karl Merkley, Ph.D.

Director of Research and Development

Dr. Merkley has more than 28 years of experience in CAE software development. He received a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering in 2002 from Brigham Young University with an emphasis in engineering software development. He worked for The Aerospace Corporation where he developed visualization software for satellite constellation design and management, and created finite element models of complex systems and supported analysis teams in incident investigations. He was a PATRAN trainer at MSC Software for more than three years.

After MSC Software, Dr. Merkley joined Aspen Research Corporation where he developed a user API to access historical and real time data and developed cross-platform applications for managing data. In 1999, he served as the Director of Software Development at Edgix. In 2001 he joined the development team and is csimsoft's Director of Research and Development. He specializes in Finite Element Mesh generation, Finite Element Analysis, scientific visualization, tolerance analysis, engineering software development. He co-founded Computational Simulation Software, LLC (csimsoft).

Dr. Merkley teaches ME 570 Introduction to Computer Aided Engineering Software Development at Brigham Young University. He is currently on a leave of absence from csimsoft while working as an international service volunteer in Argentina. He will return in July 2015.
